Subject:      Death Investigation at Oshkosh Correctional Institution

OSHKOSH, WI (January 08, 2026): The Oshkosh Police Department is investigating a death involving an inmate from the Oshkosh Correctional Institution in Oshkosh.

The Oshkosh Police Department is investigating a death that occurred after a physical disturbance between three inmates took place on 01/07/2026 at 2:58 PM at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution. A 43- year-old inmate who assaulted another inmate was secured by OSCI staff. After he was secured by OSCI staff, he experienced a medical emergency. The Oshkosh Fire Department Paramedics transported him to a local hospital for medical treatment.

On 01/08/2026 at approximately 9:11 AM, Investigators from the Oshkosh Police Department were notified that the 43-year-old male was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Oshkosh Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is continuing to investigate this incident.
