Qualifications

The Oshkosh Police Department strives to hire the best Police Officers to serve our community. If you are interested in being a part of a progressive Law Enforcement Community, you will first need to meet the following application qualifications:

  • A United States citizen
  • At least 20 years of age
  • No felony or domestic abuse convictions
  • Possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license at the time of employment
  • Possess any of the following educational requirements:
    • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
    • An Associate’s Degree from an accredited technical college
    • A minimum of 60 credits from an accredited college or university
  • Candidates must have the physical ability to perform the essential functions of a police officer; be able to use all standard police equipment, techniques, and use of force options; and have good verbal and written communication skills

Automatic Disqualifiers

  • Convicted of a felony
  • Convicted of a domestic abuse offense
  • Previously committed to a mental health institution
  • Unlawfully in the United States
  • Dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Military
  • A fugitive from justice
  • Addicted to a controlled substance
  • Subject to a court order prohibiting possession of a firearm
